    Artist’s Statement

    This striking digital fiber art piece is a collaborative project by Karen and Larry, a husband and wife team. They merge and manipulate original photos to create abstract compositions inspired by nature. The stitching, with its texture, adds a sense of depth.

    Their artwork incorporates natural elements such as water, rocks, leaves, trees, gardens, and ponds, with a focus on water to evoke a serene and tranquil mood. Their aim is to share their deep appreciation and affection for the nature that surrounds their home in southern Indiana. They are constantly captivated by the colors, patterns, and textures found in nature. Their unique approach involves extracting the textures, patterns, and shapes of everyday trees and leaves, altering their colors, and transforming them into radiant, altered realities.

    Materials

    Original photos digitally printed on satin polyester fabric, artist snow-dyed and shibori-dyed cotton and silk fabrics, and cotton batting.
