ART QUILT TITLED: Cracking Up CREATED by Karen Hampton SIZE: 40” x 32”  The “cracking up” design was inspired by a photograph of the side of a house with very badly peeling paint. A pattern was drawn on freezer paper, then fabric was cut in matching tones and values to the color in the photograph. Each piece was then machine appliqued with a satin stitch to black background fabric with matching thread. I determined that I must be crazy to get inspiration from deterioration and mold, hence the name.

Discovery and interpretation are fundamental life processes for me. Original whole cloth design painted and silkscreened onto white cotton fabric.
